Country singer-songwriter Steve Earle will lead his fourth annual songwriting camp – Camp Copperhead – in upstate New York from June 26-30, 2017. The all-inclusive, four-day music vacation and fully immersive learning experience will take place at the Full Moon Resort in Big Indian, NY, about half an hour west of Woodstock. Primary instructor Earle will be joined this year by special guest instructors Jackie Greene and Dar Williams. Students will have uniquely intimate access to Earle, having breakfast with him each morning before taking a series of master classes where Earle will break down how he composed and constructed some of his best-loved songs. Students will also get his insider perspective on what makes a song important and how to tell one’s own story. In the past, master classes have included “History and Craft,” “Co-writing,” and “Shakespeare and Songwriting’s Literary Backbone.” After lunch, students will break off into groups and have a choice to work with a poet, prose writer, or guitar teacher. An open mic every night after dinner offers students the opportunity to play the brand-new songs they’ve written.

“I am so looking forward to Camp Copperhead 2017,” says Earle. “Songwriting, like any form of art, is a living process and this year’s camp will combine my long-time beliefs about songwriting, as well as what I’ve learned in my own continuing education about the work I love the most. I can’t teach anyone to be a songwriter, but I can teach the things that I’ve learned that make you a better songwriter if you already are one. Even if they weren’t put on the planet to be a songwriter, I think those who attend will appreciate and understand songwriting better through this experience.” Camp Copperhead is open to players, writers, and music-lovers of all levels. The cost covers all workshops, seminars, gourmet meals, performances, use of the grounds, and a choice of accommodations. Details can be found at https://www.campcopperhead.com/. Those who register before May 1st will receive a $100 discount. Register HERE.
